Committee Amplifies Community Voices in Transportation Decisions (Text Version)

This is a text version of the video segment Committee Amplifies Community Voices in Transportation Decisions, which aired on Nov. 26, 2024.

BARRY CARR: Clean Communities of Central New York is a U.S. Department of Energy-designated coalition in the Clean Cities and Communities partnership to advance clean transportation nationwide. At Clean Communities of Central New York, we believe collaboration is key for building out a strong EV charging network. We lead a team of Clean Cities and Communities coalitions that serve as an environmental justice committee for the Northeast Freight Corridors Charging Plan. This team helps ensure community voices are heard and reflected in the locations selected for charging hubs under the plan. Community input helped narrow down more than 130 potential sites to 30-40. These charging hubs will allow diesel vehicles to be replaced with electric, which will reduce vehicle emissions and help improve air quality for people living in the surrounding neighborhoods. We are proud to be involved with this work and hope it can be replicated in other areas of the country.
