Training Builds Safety and Resiliency Into Alternative Transportation (Text Version)

This is a text version of the video segment Training Builds Safety and Resiliency Into Alternative Transportation, which aired on Nov. 26, 2024.

KATIE JAUCH: Middle West Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition is a U.S. Department of Energy-designated coalition in the Clean Cities and Communities partnership to advance clean transportation nationwide. We partnered with the National Fire Protection Association to promote fuel safety trainings throughout Nashville, Memphis, Jackson, and Bell Buckle. Trainings educated first responders from fire departments, public works departments, EMS, and others on how to correctly deal with emergency situations with alternative fuel vehicles commonly found in Tennessee, including electric, compressed natural gas, and propane vehicles. First responders are currently not always equipped to address these situations, so we coordinated and hosted trainings to strengthen their skills, contributing to the safety and resilience of these communities as they adopt alternative fuel vehicles. NFPA provided the technical expertise, increasing responder confidence and busting myths related to alternative fuel vehicles. Improved safety best practices and procedures for these vehicles provides drivers with greater peace of mind.
