RYAN LISEK: Drive Clean Indiana is a U.S. Department of Energy-designated coalition in the Clean Cities and Communities partnership to advance clean transportation nationwide. At Drive Clean Indiana, we are working to put more zero-emissions transit buses on the road in Gary, Indiana. Through a grant application written by Drive Clean Indiana, the Gary Public Transportation Corporation deployed four zero-emission buses in its fleet. This is the culmination of a four-year effort to reduce related emissions in an environmental justice community and to reduce the fleet’s financial burden related to fleet operations. Reduced greenhouse gas emissions have made this an impactful project for Indiana. $800,000 in funding from the Volkswagen Mitigation Fund settlement support this effort, and we’re looking at deploying four more zero-emission buses with a $500,000 grant awarded by Drive Clean Indiana.
