Utility Incentives

Utilities provide power and maintain infrastructure for public services. These services afford consumers access to electricity, natural gas, water, and other resources. As alternative fuels gained popularity, utilities began offering incentives to facilitate alternative fuel use and alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) adoption. Utilities offer a variety of incentives that encourage residential and non-residential (e.g., commercial, fleet) customers to purchase AFVs and associated infrastructure. These incentives typically pertain to vehicles, infrastructure, or fuel prices, and can encourage customers to adopt new and alternative technology, while increasing customer engagement and promoting sustainable load growth.

Incentive topics, definitions for each topic, and a list of utilities that offer incentives for each topic can be found below. Learn more about how utility programs for advanced vehicle technology deployment are developed on the Utility Program Development page. To learn more about utility EV charger installation efforts, use the U-Finder tool to search for local utility partners by state or ZIP code and get contact information.

In addition to utilities, alternative fuel associations also offer incentives to support fuel use and vehicle adoption and are included in this resource.
