Propane Research and Development Grants

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office provides grants of up to $2.5 million for the research and development of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) from renewable feedstocks through the Sustainable Propane and Renewable Chemicals (SPARC) Program. Projects must meet ASTM D1835 specifications, have a system energy consumption of no more than 50% of the higher heating value of the finished LPG, and achieve a reduction in net life greenhouse gas emissions relative to fossil LPG of at least 70%. Eligible applicants include universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, and state and local governments. For more information, see the DOE SPARC website.
