Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Billing Requirements

EV charger charging rates must be based on a price per megajoule or kilowatt-hour. All EV chargers must be able to indicate the billing rate, energy delivered, and maximum power/current type at any point during the transaction. Existing Level 2 EV chargers installed before January 1, 2021, must be updated by January 1, 2031, and Level 2 EV chargers installed after January 1, 2021, must comply upon installation. Existing direct current (DC) fast chargers installed before January 1, 2023, must be updated by January 1, 2033, and DC fast chargers installed after January 1, 2023, must comply upon installation.
