Public Utility Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Reliability Standard

Electric utilities must ensure that all new EV chargers installed in their service territory are able to be used without delays due to utility service failure. To facilitate this, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has established reasonable average and maximum target energization time periods for electrical corporations to connect customers deploying EV chargers. Specifically, electrical corporations must connect 90% of requests for EV charging within 125 business days, and 100% of requests within 160 business days. Electrical corporations must annually report on their energization timeframes, identify any projects that exceed the maximum target, and explain the reasons for the delay.
