Automated Vehicle (AV) Testing Permit Requirement

The Autonomous Vehicle Testing Program, administered by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), shall set the terms for AV testing permits. A permit is required to test driverless AVs on roadways in the District of Columbia unless DDOT has not yet made a testing permit application available and specific conditions are met, including the presence of a test operator and notifying DDOT prior to testing.
