Legislative Session Information

The Maine Legislature meets annually from early January to mid-April in even-numbered years and December to May in odd-numbered years. During the session, the governor must sign or veto a bill within 10 days of transmittal (except Sundays) or it becomes law without signature. If the session adjourns before the signing deadline passes and the governor fails to act, the legislation does not become law, via a pocket veto. If the legislature comes back into session, the governor has three days to veto the legislation or it becomes law without signature.
