This chart shows the estimated efficiency of all-electric vehicles on the road in the United States as of 2021. The Autonomie model was used to estimate the efficiency of vehicles with a range between 100 miles and 300 miles, and the relationship between them was assumed to be linear because it is largely a function of battery weight. Vehicle range was obtained primarily from FuelEconomy.gov and a variety of sources for each vehicle model, and these ranges were weighted by the number of vehicles on the road for each model (using Experian Information Solutions vehicle registration data). This method produced an average vehicle range of 257 miles, which corresponds to an efficiency factor of 3.51. This means that the average all-electric vehicle is 3.51 times more efficient than its conventional counterpart.
