Notes: Between 2007 and 2013, the electric vehicle charging station counts are an estimate of the number of geographic locations (i.e., station locations) based on the number of EVSE ports because station counts were not captured in these years. EVSE port counts include available legacy, Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast EVSE ports through 2021. Beginning in 2022, EVSE port counts include both available and temporarily unavailable legacy, Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast EVSE ports.
This chart shows the growth of U.S. public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure since 2007. The number of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) ports has grown consistently, and the number of EV charging station locations has also increased steadily. Between 2018 and 2022, the number of EVSE ports more than doubled. In 2021 alone, the number of EVSE ports grew by more than 60%. For a chart including only private stations, see U.S. Private Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure. For a chart including public and private stations, see U.S. Public and Private Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure.
